The Hospital:
Scenic Mountain Medical Center (SMMC) is a 146-bed, full-service community hospital based in the heart of the West Texas Permian Basin. The hospital, which is accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO), and is also DNV accredited, serves the residents of Big Spring as well as Howard County and the surrounding Permian Basin with a service area population of 1 million within a 100-mile radius. SMMC is certified by the American Heart Association as a "Get With The Guidelines" hospital and proudly boasts a professional medical staff who practice a variety of specialties not found in other area hospitals of the same size.
Our specialized services include cardiology, orthopedics, maternity, diagnostic imaging, emergency care with a 24/7 Level IV Trauma Center, wound care, and women's health and breast care services. We have an updated Geriatric Psychiatric unit and have acquired new medical diagnostic equipment including a 16-slice CT scanner, a centralized Fetal Monitoring system, and a centralized Wireless Telemetry Monitoring system.
